David Mussey's love of music began at an early age, listening to his mother play classical piano. But his best memories of that time are of family singalongs, with his mother accompanying popular songs of the day. Thus began a lifelong love of folk and popular music that people can sing along with. Dave has led numerous singalongs for friends, foster children, and now, as a member of Generations, for larger audiences. He plays mandolin and button accordian with the band.

Dave has also played guitar, mandolin, and fiddle for several contra dance bands. The timeless appeal of dance, community, and traditionasl music has held his interest for over 25 years. His knowledge of jigs, reels, waltzes, and polkas brings an element of instrumental melody to the strong vocal abilities of Generations.

In addition, Dave has written a number of songs and dance tunes over the years, which he has played informally at coffeehouses and dances.

Dave builds wood/canvas canoes (and teaches others to build them), serves as an assistant to his wife Fran, an accomplished brown ash basket maker, and works with foster children. When called upon, he can whip his young grandkids into a dancing frenzy with a lively tune on the button accordian. Best of all, they never notice the wrong notes.
